The evAQ mattress is specifically designed to assist in the quick and safe evacuation of individuals with mobility issues. One of its key features is the built-in slide material, which allow caregivers to easily slide the mattress along the floor, making it possible to move someone from the 1st floor to safety in just 3 minutes.
When an evacuation is necessary, a caregiver can quickly tie the straps around the individual on the evAQ mattress. The sliding material reduces friction, making it easier to maneuver the mattress through hallways and stairwells. This innovative design ensures a smooth and efficient evacuation process, minimising the risk of injury to both the individual and the caregivers
]]>a challenge. However, with the advent of modular accessible ramps, this barrier is being broken down. These innovative ramps provide a safe and convenient solution for people with disabilities, allowing them to navigate their surroundings with ease. In this blog post, we will explore the benefits and functionality of modular accessible ramps, and how they are transforming the lives of individuals with reduced mobility.
Modular accessible ramps are specially designed structures that can be easily installed and removed, providing a temporary or permanent solution for individuals with reduced mobility. These ramps are typically made from durable materials such as aluminium or steel, ensuring both strength and longevity.
Modular accessible ramps are designed to be versatile and adaptable to various settings. They consist of individual ramp sections that can be connected together to create the desired length and configuration. These sections are lightweight and easy to handle, making installation and removal a breeze.
1. Accessibility: Modular accessible ramps enable individuals with reduced mobility to access buildings and homes independently, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities.
2. Safety: These ramps are designed with safety in mind, featuring non-slip surfaces and sturdy handrails to provide stability and support.
3. Versatility: Modular ramps can be customised to fit different heights and angles, allowing for seamless navigation of various architectural barriers.
4. Portability: Unlike permanent ramps, modular ramps can be easily disassembled and relocated as needed, making them a flexible solution for both residential and commercial settings.
5. Cost-effective: Modular ramps are a cost-effective alternative to constructing permanent ramps, as they require less time, labor, and materials.
Modular accessible ramps can be used in a wide range of settings, including:
- Residential buildings
- Commercial buildings
- Schools and universities
- Hospitals and healthcare facilities
- Public spaces and parks

]]>The new Changing Places legislation is set to come into effect on January 1, 2024 in Ireland.
Changing Places are specialised facilities designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities who require additional support and equipment when using public restrooms. These facilities are equipped with features such as height-adjustable changing benches, overhead hoists, and adequate space for caregivers.
Previously, the lack of Changing Places facilities made it challenging for families with disabled members to enjoy outings and participate in community activities. The new legislation aims to address this issue by mandating the provision of Changing Places in public spaces, ensuring that families have the necessary facilities to meet their loved ones' needs.
The implementation of the Changing Places legislation will have a significant positive impact on families with disabled members. It will enable them to go out and enjoy various public spaces without the worry and stress of inadequate restroom facilities.
With a Changing Places available, families will have the freedom to explore parks, shopping centres, museums, and other public venues, knowing that they have access to suitable facilities to meet their loved ones' needs. This inclusivity will promote a sense of belonging and enable families to fully participate in community life.
A Changing Places facility goes beyond the standard accessible restroom. It includes essential features such as:
The Changing Places legislation will benefit not only individuals with disabilities but also their families and caregivers. It will provide a safe and dignified environment for personal care, ensuring that individuals with severe disabilities can participate in public life without limitations.
Furthermore, the legislation will contribute to a more inclusive society, where everyone has equal opportunities to engage in community activities and enjoy public spaces.

]]>Bathing and therapies play a crucial role in healthcare settings, providing numerous benefits for patients. These practices not only promote hygiene but also contribute to the overall well-being and recovery of individuals. Let's explore the key advantages of bathing and therapies in a healthcare setting:
Regular bathing helps maintain cleanliness and prevents the spread of infections in healthcare facilities. By removing dirt, sweat, and bacteria from the body, patients are less likely to develop healthcare-associated infections. Additionally, therapies such as hydrotherapy can cleanse wounds and promote healing, further reducing the risk of infections.
Bathing in warm water stimulates blood circulation, which is beneficial for patients with circulatory disorders or those who are bedridden. The increased blood flow helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to the body's tissues, promoting healing and reducing pain. Therapies like Hydrotherapy can also alleviate muscle and joint pain, providing much-needed comfort to patients.
Bathing and therapies offer a calming and soothing experience for patients, helping them relax and reduce stress. Warm water immersion has been shown to release endorphins, which are natural mood-boosting chemicals. This can have a positive impact on patients' mental well-being, reducing anxiety and improving overall mood.
In a healthcare setting, bathing and therapies are often incorporated into rehabilitation and physical therapy programs. Hydrotherapy, for example, can assist in the recovery of patients with musculoskeletal injuries or those undergoing joint replacement surgeries. The buoyancy of water reduces the impact on joints, allowing for gentle exercises and improved range of motion.
By promoting cleanliness, comfort, and relaxation, bathing and therapies contribute to an improved quality of life for patients in healthcare settings. These practices not only address physical needs but also provide emotional support and a sense of dignity. Patients who feel clean, refreshed, and cared for are more likely to have a positive outlook on their recovery journey.
Bathing and therapies are essential components of holistic healthcare. They go beyond mere hygiene and offer a range of physical, psychological, and emotional benefits. Here's why bathing and therapies are important in a healthcare setting:
Regular bathing helps prevent complications such as pressure ulcers, urinary tract infections, and pneumonia. Maintaining proper hygiene reduces the risk of skin breakdown and infections, which can lead to more severe health issues, especially in vulnerable populations.
Therapies like hydrotherapy, massage, and aromatherapy can aid in the healing process and promote faster recovery. These interventions improve blood circulation, reduce pain and inflammation, and enhance the body's natural healing mechanisms. By incorporating these therapies into healthcare settings, patients can experience improved outcomes and shorter hospital stays.
Bathing and therapies provide a sense of comfort and well-being to patients, particularly those who may be experiencing pain, discomfort, or anxiety. The warm water, gentle massages, and pleasant scents associated with these practices create a soothing environment that helps patients relax and feel cared for.
Engaging in bathing and therapies allows healthcare professionals to establish therapeutic relationships with their patients. These activities provide opportunities for communication, trust-building, and personalised care. By actively involving patients in their bathing and therapy routines, healthcare providers can promote patient-centered care and enhance the overall healthcare experience.
Bathing and therapies have a positive impact on mental well-being by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. The relaxation and sensory stimulation provided by these practices mentioned above including colour therapy can improve patients' mood, promote better sleep, and enhance their overall psychological state. This, in turn, contributes to a more positive and holistic approach to healthcare.
In conclusion, bathing and therapies play a vital role in healthcare settings, offering a wide range of benefits for patients. From promoting hygiene and preventing infections to enhancing comfort and supporting recovery, these practices contribute to the overall well-being and quality of life of individuals in need of healthcare services.

What is a changing places facility?
Changing Places facilities are different from standard accessible toilets. They have many features and additional equipment that make them even more accessible than the standard accessible toilets we are all familiar with. Changing Places facilities provide 12m² of floor space, and include both a full room coverage ceiling track hoist, a centrally located toilet bowl with space either side for transfers or assistants, and a height-adjustable adult sized changing bench.
Changing Places facilities are designed to enhance the health, safety, comfort and dignity of someone who may need extra support and additional equipment during personal care tasks. Changing Places facilities also offer added safety and support features for assistants.
Standard disabled accessible toilets do not meet the needs of all people with complex disabilities. For example, individuals with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, and older people with physical disabilities may need extra equipment facilities to enable them to use the toilet, maximising independence and comfort.
Sadly, many people with disabilities have to go through the indignity and unhygienic option of being changed on the floor of a public toilet as the correct facilities are not available in public places.
Changing Places Ireland is a welcome addition to many Irish people with disabilities and their families. The aim of our campaign is to promote the inclusion of changing places facilities in public places nationwide. Thousands of people need Changing Places facilities to enable them to get out and about and enjoy the day-to-day activities that many of us take for granted.

Do you know it’s only when you or someone belonging to you is in hospital that you realise how poor the shower room facilities are, particularly in the acute sector.
This has sent me on a mission to improve the situation not only for the patient but for the caregivers also.
Let me introduce you to the Triton Dual Shower/Commode Chair.
No more bending down to wash the patient. Powered by a built in battery the patient can be brought up to your level. It has dual motors, a Hi/Lo and a tilt in space function +7◦̊/ - 30◦.
The soft seat provides comfort for the patient and the height allows eye contact with the carer. The Triton is not only a shower and commode chair. It can be multifunctional for e.g. with the headrest removed it can be tilted back over a hairdressers sink for washing, cutting and blow drying hair.
It can also be used for chiropody purposes and leg dressings. We are having very positive feedback on the Triton, already in use in care of the elderly and disability services.
