  • 17th Annual Aware Harbour2Harbour walk

This St. Patricks Day our fantastic colleague Sinead along with her husband Padraig took part in the 17th Annual Aware Harbour2Harbour walk. Sinead put together a few words from the day which raised much needed funds for a great charity.  Well done and great work Sinead.

With glorious weather and energy in our stride we made our way by dart to the starting line - Dun Laoghaire Harbour.  There was a great buzz of excitement in the air and the mood all round was one of anticipation and happiness.

The walk itself is 26km and takes in the fabulous dublin coastline.  Along the way

we watched brave swimmers in Sandycove, basketball players in Blackrock, rowers in Ringsend, canoeists in Clontarf, and droves of cyclists along the Howth road walkway.  Chatter and laughter could be heard from all 2,700 participants - well initially anyway!!!

When we reached the halfway point in Dublin Port, we were kindly treated to some fab live music, sambos, crisps, tea and coffee.  It was nice to put the feet up for half an hour and refuel the body for the next stage.

The second half of the journey started well but by 22km the old legs began to feel tired and each step felt heavier.  The chat lessened a wee bit but the determination to finish grew.  When we arrived at Howth Harbour we were delighted to have completed our walk and enjoyed a celebratory drink before catching the train home.  All in all it took us 4 1/2 hours - time well spent on being active as well as supporting a great cause.
